And We’re Back!
August 21, 2008
It’s hard to believe, but the summer is over and students are returning to classes once again in Happy Valley for the fall. Likewise, it’s time for me to return from my summer blogging vacation and get back to work. Even though this blog has been quiet for the last month or so, there have actually been several interesting developments.
Perhaps the highest profile was LaunchBox Digital’s demo day in Washington D.C., featuring one of Penn State’s entrepreneurs, David Adewumi, as a co-founder with Heekya. It sounds like David’s company has made excellent progress over the summer, culminating with presentations to prospective investors on both coasts. The public unveiling of the nine LaunchBox startups certainly garnered much attention from the press, including TechCrunch and the Washington Post. There’s a nice overview of Heekya on IST Building.com. Be sure to vote for it on IdeaBlob, too!
The seed funding program for the Philadelphia area, DreamIt Ventures, prepares for its own demo day in early September.
Other exciting news for Penn State entrepreneurship came in late July, with a $100,000 gift to create an endowment for Penn State Altoona’s entrepreneurship program.
In other news, the students at IST Building are setting out to collect people, companies, and research on the IST Wiki. As a shameless plug, here’s my entry!
